When you think about feathers, what comes to mind first is usually their shape, textures, and colors.  Feathers make interesting photos both as macro shots and further away.  Think about those shapes and textures.  Then, take a walk outside and see if you can find something that reminds you of a feather.  It may be something big or small, up close or far away, in the garden or on the ground.  Photograph it in a way that emphasizes its interesting characteristics.

Keep in mind how the lights and darks fall on your subject; this is what creates depth and form.  Where do the lines pull the viewer's eye?  Try shooting from different angles.

You may end up with something that feels a bit abstract.  That's OK.  Let your imagination take you on a trip beyond what you know is in front of your lens.
