Women have been decorating with needle and thread throughout the ages. This young colonial interpreter in Williamsburg, Va. was learning the art of cross-stitching. It was chilly, so her hands were protected from the cold in the 18th-century style. But the glittery nail polish that decorated her fingers would not have been historically accurate! ;-)
