When it comes to merit and the color blue, the first thing that came to my mind was a blue ribbon, the award for finishing in first place.  I am not a competetive person, so this was a strange first thought.

Merit can be definied as, "the quality of being particularly good or worthy."  We do not have to finish in first place to be worthy of merit.  We need to do and be our best.

I am never going to win a race, but I am working to be the best runner that I can be.  I lace up my shoes, which happens to be blue, and hit the pavement (or treadmill) and give what I have to give on that day.  In my book, I deserve some merit for that.
