Day 361
Boxing Day

Boxing Day gets it’s name from a time when the rich used to box up gifts to give to the poor. Although its orgins are unknown the holiday dates back to the 1800’s and was seen as a day of goodwill.

It is a public holiday in the United Kingdom and other British Commonwealth countries such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Over the years the day has become associated with charity events, horse racing, swimming the icy waters of the English Channel, and football.

For others today starts the week long celebration of Kwanzaa and the 12 Days of Christmas have begun.
