To me, "shoot from the heart" means take the photos that will fill YOUR heart with joy.  The image doesn't have to speak to anyone but you.  It doesn't have to be perfect.  All it has to do is hold a piece of your story.  Most of my favorite photos that I have taken are candid shots because they are glimpses of real life, my life, and they hold the memories that make my heart feel.
