Bird feeders are practical don't you think?  They provide nourishment to the local birds.  

When I took this photo I wanted the details of the bird feeder and the bird to be the focus.  To accomplish this I used a relatively wide aperture of f3.5.  A wider aperture allows the focus to fall on the subject of the photo-- the bird and feeder--while the background remains out of focus.  It draws the eye directly to the subject and allows the details to really stand out.
