LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO OUR COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT FOR SEPTEMBER, LAURA LONEY!
Hello from New Mexico! I'm originally from the Midwest but moved to NM 5 years ago when my husband took a teaching job at a college here. I have 10 kiddos and the 3 youngest live in NM with us. We love it here in our new "home" in the Southwest. We also have a couple of sweet doggies that I feature a lot in my photos.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO PHOTOGRAPHY AND WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
My parents were not avid photographers so I really don't know where my love of photography has come from. My first camera was a Kodak Disc, anyone remember those? I fell in love with capturing moments and have been taking pictures ever since. I now have a Nikon D3500 and although I still am shooting in auto, I have a goal to learn more and maybe someday move into manual mode. I'm not a patient learner!
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE SUBJECTS TO PHOTOGRAPH?
My favorite subjects are my family, including my furry family members. I love catching action shots during the many sporting events I have attended for my kids over the years. I love candid photos I get during our holidays and get togethers. I love taking nature photos - anything can be a subject - flowers, sunsets, or the occasional lucky wildlife shot.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOU OTHER HOBBIES?
I dabble in a lot of hobbies. I love knitting, reading, hiking, baking, and genealogy. I also enjoying mediating and yoga... I gotta find time to destress too!
WHAT PROMPTED YOU TO START A DAILY PHOTO PROJECT?
I first started a daily photo project with Katrina Kennedy's Capture your 365. I started out thinking I would try it for a month and hear I am over 10 years later still enjoying documenting my days this way!
WHAT ARE FAVOURITE PROMPTS?
I still get intimidated by the wealth of talent of our group. You are all so amazing and inspirational! I remind myself to not be too hard on myself if I struggle with a prompt. My favorite prompts are the easy (not gonna lie) like food, colors, or where I stand. They help when days are busy. My least favorite for me to shoot are street photography. But I love seeing the street photography the group captures.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE EMBARKING ON A 365 PROJECT?
My advice for anyone thinking of starting is to just jump in and do it. Have fun with it. Don't worry if you are good enough because these pictures are yours and you will love documenting your days this way. Don't worry if you use your iphone a lot because I use mine a lot too. It is always with me even if my camera isn't.
