Tell us about yourself. Where do you live. What are your hobbies, etc.
Until three years ago, I lived in New York State but South Carolina became my home after retirement and I love it here! The mountains or the ocean are just 2-3 hours away and there are so many places to explore and endless hiking opportunities here and in the surrounding states. Along with photography and travel, I enjoy gardening, sewing, and volunteering long-distance for the rescue I founded 25 years ago.
When did you start taking an interest in photography? ?
Many years ago, I bought a Brownie Hawkeye at a church rummage sale for $1 and I was hooked!
What is your “go to” camera equipment? What editing programs or apps do you prefer?
I’m a Nikon user with several cameras, but the Z7ii is my favorite. Photoshop is my go-to editing tool—I’ve been using it since version CS2 so it's been a part of my workflow for years and it’s a never ending learning process. For that extra touch, I sometimes use On1 and Topaz.
What is your favorite style of photography? What is your least favorite style?
I enjoy all kinds of photography, though wildlife photography has become my favorite. Its unpredictability makes it a fun challenge—animals rarely cooperate with posing or staying still! On the other hand, human portraits, aside from my grandkids, are my least favorite. A couple of wedding shoots were enough to convince me it’s not for me.
What advice would you give to someone just starting a 365 project?
Don’t stress about getting the perfect pic and don’t hesitate to use your phone. If the prompt doesn’t speak to you that day, post what does. If you miss days, catch up if you want or start back when you can. This is an amazing group of kind and talented fellow photographers and it’s a great way of documenting your year!
