2026 - March Picks

There’s a quiet myth in photography that it’s a solitary pursuit — that the best images are born from lone wanderings, private obsessions, and individual talent. While there’s some truth to that, it’s only part of the picture. In reality, some of the most meaningful growth a photographer experiences comes not from isolation, but from connection. Belonging to a photography community like 365PictureToday can transform not just your work, but your entire relationship with the craft.

At its core, photography is about perspective. When you’re on your own, it’s easy to fall into visual habits—shooting the same subjects, framing things the same way, editing with a familiar style. A community disrupts that pattern. Seeing how others interpret the world expands your own vision. You begin to notice details you previously overlooked, experiment with techniques you hadn’t considered, and question your creative assumptions in a productive way.

Then there’s the motivational aspect. Photography, like any creative pursuit, comes with plateaus and periods of doubt. Being part of a group keeps you engaged. Simply seeing others stay consistent, that shared energy can push you to keep going when you might otherwise stall. It turns photography from a personal hobby into a shared journey. A healthy photography community isn’t about chasing likes or validation—it’s about learning, sharing, and evolving together.

Communities like ours also open doors—sometimes literally. You might discover other members that live in or close to where you live.  I've had the opportunity on a number of occasions to get together with other fellow 365'ers whom I never would have met had I not been part of this group.    I've also been fortunate to meet up with group members who just happen to be traveling through this neck of the woods.  I've made some awesome connections and friends that I have never met in person.   Our community allows you to build relationships with people who understand the nuances of what you do. That sense of belonging—of being surrounded by others who “get it”—is incredibly grounding in a world where creative work can often feel undervalued or misunderstood.

In the end, photography may begin as a personal way of seeing the world, but it doesn’t have to stay that way. When you connect with others who share that passion, your work gains depth, your perspective broadens, and the process becomes far more rewarding. You’re no longer just taking photos—you’re participating in a living, breathing conversation about how we see and capture life.

Today we highlight this awesome community by exhibiting a few of the photos found on Instagram and Flickr during the month of March.  Keep posting those photos!

I just love seeing how you interpret our monthly prompts.  Your creativity is endless.  Here is Rebecca Darby's (@becdarby365 on instagram) interpretation of the prompt Rust Map.  The old truck is certainly showing it's age.

The next shot is from Leann Mize.  She posted this adorable photo of her granddaughter Atlee on Flickr for the prompt Cozy.  Isn't she just the sweetest?

From Flickr Daneen Roth gives a great action shot for the prompt Chase.  Daneen's sports photography always delivers.

For the prompt Crisp, Yvonne Devereux photographed some delicious looking potato chips.  Now that's crisp!

Also from Flickr we have Claire Vorwerk's take on the prompt Glimmer.  Candles aglow in the dark is such a perfect subject for this prompt.

In March we celebrated St. Patrick's Day on March 15th and it was the perfect day for the prompt Lucky.  Jessica Liniger showed us here lucky shamrocks for this prompt.

Billi Grof who goes by @pattybilline on instagram gives us the Daily Grandma Chronicles.  A tiny daily glimpse into her life as a grandmother.   For the prompt Wall/Hallway she wrote such a great description behind the photo of a special wall in her home.

Heidi Marquardt (@heidimarq) photographed her beautiful self for our Saturday Selfie prompt. Our colour for this week was yellow and Heidi looked stunning in her yellow sweater.  I also noted a nod to our own Lysle Barmby in a mug sitting behind Heidi in her photo!

The next two photos made me chuckle!  First, on instagram, @penny_lifeunscripted showed us her humorous side in her photo with tiny legs hanging out of her dryer.

Then on Flickr, Sue Burn used the Dr. Seuss book of Oh The Places You'll Go for our Dr. Seuss prompt.  I had to chuckle at the sign she put the quote beside.  These days I don't think we'd get very far at all without the use of Satellite navigation!

The next couple of photos can be found on Flickr.  First we have Cheryl Toms photo for the prompt Stitch.  Those fabric bags are quite pretty.

For our monthly mug shot, Sue Rayner showed us just how tender hands holding a mug can look.  Such a great take on the prompt Tender.

Our final three photos for the March of month are taken from both instagram and Flickr.  For the prompt Mossy, Christina, @nauticalexpressions on instagram presented a photo she had taken from the forest floor.  Such a dreamy photo!

Kay Lucien posting on instagram as @klucien237 showed us just how pretty spring can be.  Kay captured some beautiful blossom for the prompt Embrace the Light.

And last, but certainly not least, for the prompt Back Lane igans, Carol Elliott gave us a glimpse into a side alley in Japan.  A photo she took twenty four years ago!

Thanks to everyone who posted a photo this month on Facebook, Instagram and Flickr.  We couldn't be this great community if it wasn't for each and every one of you!  Keep on posting!
