Extra can be a hard word.  Sometimes there is a very fine line between what is extra and what is enough.

I always try to have enough guitar strings on hand because there is a constant need for them.  I do try to put "extras" in my case when I am playing away from home.  I guess it comes down to if you don't need them they are extra and if you do, they are enough.  :-)
