How do I do that? Easy peasy!
Today we are going to try using the technique of Intentional Camera Motion to make a 'fluttery photograph". If you have done it before, you know how simple it is to achieve. If you have never done it, you are going to love it and I must warn you that you will start ICM-ing all over the place! It is very addictive.
Intentional Camera Movement involves deliberately moving your camera while using a long exposure. You simply choose a slow shutter speed and then physically move your camera either up and down, or side to side while the shutter is open. You will need to experiment with how long you choose to expose and what motions work best for what you want to achieve.
Some of the best subjects for this technique are trees, buildings or anything with long lines and strong colours.
In my sample photo I used Shutter Priority (S/Tv) mode, my shutter speed was 1 second, my 1SO was set to 100 and I used a small aperture (f22) and I also turned off my stabilizer. After I took my photo, I processed it in Lightroom and boosted the brightness and vibrance just a little bit.
There are apps that can be used to achieve this technique with the iphone: Slow Shutter Cam and Reeflex or ReeXpose are recommended. There are also videos on YouTube on how to do ICM with your iphone.
If you don't want to try ICM today, just show us something fluttery!
